November 28 Haute Couture In Room 1 Today Well, my neverending fashion parade continues today. Isaiah, a.k.a. red swim cap boy, came today with a pair of superman sunglasses. Now normally these wouldn't be funny. However, the only way they can fit on his head is with a strap that holds them in place which starts at the bridge of the glasses and goes over the top of his head. Even this wouldn't scream "special" so much as the fact that each lens has the superman logo embossed on them so seeing out of the glasses is hard. Isaiah is literally running into the walls with them on. It's like watching a mole trying to navigate his way through his environment. I finally had to tell him to take them off when he ran over me with the tricycle at recess. November 27 The Fashion Parade Continues It rained last night and I think early this morning before I got up. I was thinking that I'd be trapped indoors all day with the kids coming off a four day weekend. Luckily the sun came out. However, apparently one of my students took the weather to heart and showed up to school wearing none other that a flaming red swimming cap. I kid you not. I saw him walk in and I said, "Hon, what are you wearing"? He replied, "It's a rain hat Miss. B". I said, "Ok Aquaman, go put it in your cubby and I'll let you know if you need it later". Honestly, the darn thing looked like a giant red condom on his head. I have no idea how he got it on either! November 17 Teaching Activism and Altruism I am of the philosophy that you can never be too young to learn activism and altruism. Right now my class is in the middle of a penny drive to help feed the needy families in the community for Thanksgiving. I thought this was important because my students have no concept of those who are less fortunate than they are. I've been trying to impart to them the gift of giving and helping. Hopefully that will be something that will become a life long idea for them. They seemed to have bought into the idea of this and have been very exicited raiding their piggy banks or their parent's wallets. We've raised a total of $15.86 so far but I'm hoping over the weekend after I hit up everyone I know that we will have more. I know it's not much on the grand scale of things but it's the idea of helping those less fortunate than we are which is a great thing.
*** Author's Note: We ended up raising $174.90 total. We had the highest total for our school and for our whole district as a class. Talk about making me proud! November 14 A Quick Lesson in Science As Per Miss. B. Yesterday we had a little drama in class. Adrian bent over to pick up something he dropped on the floor. He wasn't paying attention to what he was doing and WHACK, he smacked his head on the table. Unfortunately, he caught the brow bone and caused a small split above his eyelid. Fortunately, it didn't bleed. However, I know it hurt bad. Maria went for ice. She put on the ice on Adrian's eye and I had to hold him down so the eye didn't get worse. It ended up he had a half-shiner today. This drama brought me to the discussion today of why we must sit correctly in our chairs. I said to my class, "Look guys, I don't want any more injuries like Adrian's. This is why you must keep your chairs on the floor. If it comes down between you and the table, the table is going to win every time". This brought out puzzled looks on some faces so I figured I would have them conduct their own little science experiment to make my point. I said,"Ok, everybody raise your hand. Now take your hand and slam it down on the table like Miss. B". I slam my hand down on the table so the kids get the visual. My class all slams down their hand. I then say, "What is hurting more, your hand or the table"? Everyone says their hand. I say, "Get it now"? That they all understood. November 09 Finally...some good news Just when things seem like they are going to suck forever, Karma smiles upon you. I had to take a break from blogging because it's just been a really stressful time. However, tonight I came home to find an email waiting for me which has changed my entire mood. In my earlier blogs I went on and on about my students and the President's Fitness Challenge. I had contacted our local paper about doing the story but they never made it out. That was almost two years ago. All of sudden I am asked out fo the blue if my class this year is as fit as my class two years ago and if I am still teaching. Good thing I've been making my kids do PE 30 minutes a day every day now since class started. We are pretty fit. I wrote back and now the reporter wants to come out and talk me about this. I am really hoping this time we can get out story out there. If we do, I'll post the url here so everyone can share with us our victories. I could use a little boost right now. November 03 Remind Me Next Time To Bring My Boots To Our Staff Meeting.... I've decided not to quit but I'm pretty much set on leaving this district unless they get their act together. (I will not hold my breath)
Right now....I've got a major attitude problem and people are not making it better.
I'm walking to our district Special Ed meeting with Janie's sister and we are talking about Janie and our boss. Out of the blue I see our boss come walking towards us and I sort of elbow Janie's sister to stop talking. My boss comes running up to Janie's sister spouting off all this bull about how happy Janie is where she's at and how she's the most popular kid on campus. I don't say a word and excuse myself to go into the meeting. Now Janie's teacher comes up to me with pictures to show me how happy Janie is and how much she loves her students. It was all I could do not to slap her and tell her to get out of my face. I sat there nicely and stomached the dog and pony show. I wanted to say to her after she went through all her photos, "Thanks but would you please quit now so we can get someone qualified to teach instead of having to deal with your sorry tenured behind". I know that's not nice but it's true. That is what just frosts my cookie so much. They couldn't get rid of her even though she was a crappy RSP teacher so they put her in an SH class and dumped her on the kids. So anyway, I didn't buy the tag team routine nor did Janie's sister. Next time we have a district Special Ed meeting, someone remind me to bring my boots so I can wade through all the crap please. |
